Double Crochet Cluster Stitch [Free Video Tutorial & Written Pattern!]

Learn how to crochet the Double Crochet Cluster Stitch - a gorgeous stitch with fantastic drape making it ideal for ANY project!

A simple 2 row repeat makes up the stitch pattern which looks fantastic either changing colour every row or in a plain yarn. It works beautifully with variegated yarns too!

Double Crochet Cluster Stitch WRITTEN PATTERN

USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn


Abbreviations:

Β·       Ch = Chain

Β·       DC = Double crochet

Β·       DC2tog = Double crochet 2 together

Β·       Rep = Repeat

Β·       St = Stitch

Β·       Ch sp = Chain space


Pattern multiple: any even number


Foundation Row: Ch multiples of 2 (any even number).


Row 1: DC2tog by starting in the third ch from the hook, skipping a ch, and working the second DC into the fifth ch.

Rep *ch 1, DC2tog* across. In the same ch you complete a DC2tog, you will start the next one, skip 1 ch, and complete the DC2tog in the next ch. You will always start a DC2tog in the same ch you completed the previous one in.

At the end of the row, ch 1 and make 1 DC in the last ch.

If you’re changing colours, fasten off and cut the yarn. Join the next colour.


Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Make 2 SC and rep *ch 1, 1 SC in ch sp* across. At the end of the row, ch 1 and make 1 SC in the last st.

If you’re changing colours, fasten off and cut the yarn. Join the next colour.


Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC) and turn.

Rep *DC2tog, ch 1* across by working only in the SC of the previous row. You will always start a DC2tog in the same st you completed the previous one in.

At the end of the row, ch 1 and make 1 DC in the last st.


Row 4-onward: Rep rows 2 and 3 for as long as you want your project to be.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the ends.
