Learn how to Crochet the Fantail Shell Stitch Triangle Shawl - worked from the bottom up, this quick growing shawl is perfect as a triangle scarf / shawlette or larger shawl.

Hook Size(s): according to your yarn

Abbreviations:

โ€ข Ch = Chain

โ€ข V-st = V-Stitch

โ€ข DC = Double crochet

โ€ข Rep = Repeat

โ€ข Ch sp = Chain space

โ€ข St = Stitch

V-Stitch: 1 DC, ch 1, 1 DC

Shell: 3 DC, ch 1, 3 DC

Foundation Row: Ch 5 and sl st to join.

Row 1: Ch 3 and make 2 DC, ch 1, and 3 DC in the ring.

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

Make 1 DC in the same st, ch 3, 1 SC in the ch sp, ch 3, and 1 v-st in the last st of the row.

Row 3: Ch 3 and turn.

Make (2 DC, ch 1, 3 DC) in the ch sp, 1 SC in the ch 3 sp, ch 1, 1 SC in the ch 3 sp, 1 shell in the last ch sp.

Row 4: Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

Make 1 DC in the same st, ch 3, 1 SC in ch sp of the shell, ch 3, 1 v-st in the ch sp between two SC, ch 3, 1 SC in ch sp of the shell, and 1 v-st in the last st of the row.

Row 5: Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

Working in the ch sp of the previous row, make 3DC inc, 1 SC, ch 1, 1 SC, 1 shell, 1 SC, ch 1, 1 SC, and (3 DC, ch 1, 1 DC) in the last ch sp of the row.

Row 6: Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

Make 1 DC in the same st. Working in the ch sp of the previous row, ch 3, 1 SC, ch 3, 1 v-st, ch 3, 1 SC, ch 3, 1 v-st, ch 3, 1 SC, ch 3, and 1 v-st in the last st of the row.

Row 7 (shell row): Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

These shell rows begin and end with half a shell.

Make 3DC inc in the first ch sp, 1 SC in each ch 3 sp, separated by a ch 1, and 1 shell in the ch sp of each v-st.

In the last ch sp of the row, make (3 DC, ch 1, 1 DC).

Row 8 (v-st row): Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

Make 1 DC in the same st to complete the v-st. Ch 3 and in the ch sp between the SC of the previous row, make (1 v-st, ch 3).

In the ch sp of each shell, make (1 SC, ch 3).

In the last ch sp of the row, make 1 SC, ch 3, and 1 v-st in the last st of the row.

Rows 9-onward: Rep rows 7 and 8 for as big as youโ€™d like the shawl to be.

Row of edging: Ch 4 (counts as 1 DC and ch 1) and turn.

Make 1 SC in the first ch sp. Ch 3 and in the ch sp between the SC of the previous row, make (1 v-st, ch 3). In the ch sp of each shell, make (1 SC, ch 3).

In the last ch sp of the row, make 1 SC, ch 3, and 1 DC in the last st of the row.

Fasten off and cut the yarn.
