For my blanket and foundation border row I used 3.5 balls of James Brett Aurora Double Knitting yarn in the shade "AU11" for the blanket with a 4mm Hook

For the border I used 1 ball of Hayfield Bonus DK in Cream for the border with a 4mm Hook.

This gave me a blanket approximately 36” x 41.5” in size (92cm x160cm) including the border

You can use any yarn you so wish for this blanket.

Pattern for C2C Open Block Stitch:

Foundation Row: Ch 6 and starting in the fourth ch of the row, make 3 DC. This forms a block.

Increase Row 1: Ch 6, skip 3 ch, and make 3 DC. Flip the first block upwards and sl st into the ch 3 sp. Make 3 DC in this same space.

Increase Row 2 (solid block row): Ch 6, skip 3 ch, and make 3 DC. Flip the first block upwards and sl st in the ch 3 sp. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space.

Increase Row 4 (solid block row): Ch 6, skip 3 ch, and make 3 DC. Flip the conjoined blocks upwards and sl st in the ch 3 sp of the adjacent block. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space. Sl st in the ch 6 sp. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space. Sl st in the ch 3 sp of the block at the top. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space.

Increase Row 5 (open block row): Ch 6, skip 3 ch, and make 3 DC. Flip the conjoined blocks upwards and sl st into the ch 3 sp of the adjacent block.

Rep *ch 6, sl st into the ch 3 sp of the next block, ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, sl st into the ch 3 sp of the next block* across until you reach the last block. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space.

Increase Row 6 (solid block row): Ch 6, skip 3 ch, and make 3 DC. Flip the conjoined blocks upwards and sl st in the ch 3 sp of the adjacent block. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space.

Rep *sl st in the next ch sp, ch 3, 3 DC in the same space* until you reach the end.

Increase Rows 7-onward: Rep rows 5 and 6 for as wide as you want your project to be. You will end on an open block row.

Middle Row 1 (solid block row): Ch 1 and turn. Make 4 sl st.

Rep *ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, sl st in the next ch sp* across. If you were forming a square, you would stop right before the last block, leaving it unworked. For a rectangular shape, you will work this last block as well.

Middle Row 2 (open block row): Ch 6, skip 3 ch, and make 3 DC. Flip the conjoined blocks upwards and sl st into the ch 3 sp of the adjacent block.

Rep *ch 6, sl st into the ch 3 sp of the next block, ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, sl st in the ch 3 sp of the next block* across until you reach the last block. Ch 3 and make 3 DC in this same space.

Middle Row 3 (solid block row): Ch 1 and turn. Make 4 sl st.

Rep *ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, sl st in the next ch sp* across.

Middle Rows 4-onward: Rep rows 2 and 3 for as long as you want your project to be. You will end on an open block row.

Decrease Row 1 (solid block row): Ch 1 and turn. Make 4 sl st.

Rep *ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, sl st in the next ch sp* across until you reach the last block. Leave this unworked.

Decrease Row 2 (open block row): Ch 1 and turn. Make 4 sl st.

Rep *ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, sl st in the next ch sp, ch 6, sl st in the ch 3 sp of the next block* across until you reach the last block. Leave this unworked.

Decrease Rows 3-onward: Rep rows 1 and 2 until you’ve made the second-to-last row with two solid blocks.

Last Row: Ch 1 and turn. Make 4 sl st, ch 3, and make 3 DC in the same space. Sl st to join. Do not cut your yarn.

Foundation Border Row 1: using same yarn as blanket, continuing straight from the ending point of your last row:

Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same space.

Rep *ch 2, 1 SC in between the blocks* across.

To form the corners, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC) in the corner space.

At the end of the row, sl st to join.

You will now have a neat foundation border from which you can build any border you so wish. Cut your yarn, weave in your ends.
