For my squares, I used Woll Bee Batik from Wollbiene in the colourway "Pastel Rainbow" (available to purchase here: https://amzn.to/3W73HWC ) with a 6mm Hook

For the border, I used Paintbox Chunky in white with a 8mm Hook

Row 5: Ch 3 and turn. Make (1 SC, ch 1) in each ch 1 sp across and (1 SC, ch 1, 1 SC) in the ch 3 sp at the end.

Rep row 5 until you reach the desired width of your square. Be sure to end on an odd row for the border to work.

Middle Row: Ch 3 and turn. Make (1 SC, ch 1) in each ch 1 sp across and (1 SC, 1 ESC)  in the ch 3 sp at the end.

Row 1 (decreasing): Ch 2 and turn. Skip the 2 SC and make (1 SC, ch 1) in each ch 1 sp across. Make 1 SC in the last ch 1 sp and 1 SC in the ch 3 sp, without a ch 1 in between.

Row 3: Ch 2 and turn. Make (1 SC, ch 1) in each ch 1 sp across. Make 1 SC in the last ch 1 sp and 1 SC in the ch 2 sp, without a ch 1 in between.

Rep row 3 until there are only 2 st left.

Last Row: Ch 1 and turn. Skip the 2 SC and in the ch 2 sp, make 1 SC.

Fasten off and cut the yarn.

For the border of the square, it is recommended that you go up another hook size from the hook you used for the squares.

Row 1 (first square): Make a Standing SC with your new color of yarn in any corner. Ch 2 and make 1 SC in the same space to form the first corner. Rep *ch 1, 1 SC* around, working in the eyelets or gaps where you think they would naturally fall.

For the corners, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC). Make sure all sides have the same number of stitches. Sl st to join at the end of the row.

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in the ends.

For the JAYG method,

Row 1 (second square): Make a Standing SC with your new color of yarn in any corner. Ch 2 and make 1 SC in the same space to form the first corner. Rep *ch 1, 1 SC* around, working in the eyelets or gaps where you think they would naturally fall. For the corners, make (1 SC, ch 2, 1 SC). To join any side, start a corner by making (1 SC, ch 1) and sl st into the corresponding corner of the first square. Make 1 SC in the second square to complete the corner. For this side, rep *sl st in the first square, 1 SC in the second square* until you reach the next corner. At this corner, make 1 SC, ch 1, sl st into the second square, and 1 SC to complete the corner. Complete the rest of the sides like normal.

Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Weave in the ends.
