Crochet Bavarian Stitch Square Blanket WRITTEN PATTERN - USA STITCH TERMS

Hook Size(s): 4.5mm (or any size slightly bigger than recommended for your yarn)

Abbreviations:

• Ch = Chain

• Ch sp = Chain space

• SC = Single crochet

• TR = Treble crochet

• BP = Back post

• Tog = Together

• Rep = Repeat

• St = Stitch

Special Stitch(es):

TR4tog (cluster): (yarn over twice, insert hook in the st, yarn over, pull up, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 4 times, yarn over, pull through all the loops on the hook.

BPTR4tog (cluster): Make the TR4tog cluster working in the back posts of each stitch.

TR8tog (cluster): (yarn over twice, insert hook in the st, yarn over, pull up, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 8 times, yarn over, pull through all the loops on the hook.

BPTR8tog (cluster): Make the TR8tog cluster working in the back posts of each stitch.

Pattern:

Make a magic ring.

Row 1: Make 1 SC and rep *ch 5, TR4tog, ch 5, 1 SC* four times in the ring. For the last cluster, sl st to join instead of making 1 SC. Pull the yarn tail to close the ring.

Row 2: Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same st, (4 TR, ch 1, 4 TR, ch 1, 4 TR) in the ch sp next to each cluster of the previous row, and 1 SC on top of each SC in between the clusters. For the last cluster, sl st to join instead of making 1 SC. Fasten off and cut the yarn. There should be four corners formed.

Row 3: Attach the second colour to any corner ch sp of the previous row. Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same st. Rep *ch 5, BPTR4tog, ch 5, 1 SC in the ch sp, ch 5, BPTR8tog (skipping the SC in between), ch 5, 1 SC in the ch sp* across. For the last cluster, sl st to join instead of making 1 SC. The BPTR4tog clusters form the corners and the BPTR8tog clusters are for the sides.

Row 4: Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same st, (4 TR, ch 1, 4 TR, ch 1, 4 TR) in the ch sp next to each BPTR4tog cluster of the previous row, 1 SC on top of each SC after every cluster, (4 TR, ch 1, 4 TR) in the ch sp next to each BPTR8tog cluster. For the last cluster, sl st to join instead of making 1 SC. Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Row 5: Attach the next colour to any corner ch sp of the previous row. Ch 1 and make 1 SC in the same st. Rep *ch 5, BPTR4tog, ch 5, 1 SC in the ch sp* for every corner and *ch 5, BPTR8tog (skipping the SC in between), ch 5, 1 SC in the ch sp* for every cluster of the side. For the last cluster, sl st to join instead of making 1 SC. The BPTR4tog clusters form the corners and the BPTR8tog clusters are for the sides.

Rows 6-onward: Rep rows 4 and 5.
