WRITTEN PATTERN
For my blanket, I used Ice Yarn Baby Chenille.
When you buy 1 pack of this yarn, it consists of 4 balls in total.
I used roughly 2 out of the 4 balls PER COLOUR in each pack (I used 3 balls of the Cream) - I used a little more of the cream as that included the border. If substituting this yarn, please pay close attention to the yardage on your chosen yarn. My entire blanket used approximately between 1,800 - 2,000 yards of aran weight chenille yarn.
The colours I used are:
1 Pack of each the following colours: Fuchsia (54231) Salmon (58602) Yellow (54149) Green (55750) Blue (54534) Orchid (58883) and Cream (54139)
6mm Hook
My finished blanket measures approximately 42 inches (106cm) wide by approximately 57 inches (144 cm) in length - including the border.
Stitch Abbreviations: - USA STITCH TERMS
Ch = Chain
HDC = Half Double Crochet
HDC VStitch = Half Double Crochet, Chain 1, Half Double Crochet into the same stitch
SC = Single Crochet
Pattern Multiple: 2 (chain any even number)
Foundation Row:
With Fuchsia, chain 94
HDC VStitch into the 4th ch from your hook, mark the top of the 3 skipped chains with a stitch marker. Skip 1 ch, HDC VStitch into next ch along. Repeat * Skip 1ch, HDC VStitch in the next * along the chain. When there are just 2 chains remaining, end on 1 HDC into the last ch.
Row 2:
Ch1 and turn.
HDC in same place as turning chain, HDC VStitch into the ch1 space of the HDC VStitches from the row below. End with 1HDC in the last stitch.
REPEAT ROW 2 until you have 107 Rows in total.
For my colour sequence:
17 Rows of Fuchsia
1 Row of Cream
17 Rows of Salmon
1 Row of Cream
17 Rows of Yellow
1 Row of Cream
17 Rows of Green
1 Row of Cream
17 Rows of Blue
1 Row of Cream
17 Rows of Orchid
Once you have completed your last row, chain 1 and cut your yarn leaving long tails to weave in.
Weave in all your ends and grab Cream to crochet your border.
BORDER:
Join Cream to the top right corner stitch, create a standing sc (place a slip knot on your hook, place hook into stitch, yarn over and draw through - 2 loops on your hook - yarn over and draw through 2 loops to create your standing sc stitch)
Along the top edge, SC in HDC stitches only (not the chain 1 spaces)
Work (SC, Ch2, SC) into the last stitch to form a corner
SC evenly down the side
Work (SC, Ch2, SC) into the last stitch to form a corner
Along the bottom edge: work 1 SC immedately after the corner then work 2SC into the spaces inbetween the HDC Stitches from Row 1
In the last space work 1SC into the space and work a corner (SC, Ch2, SC) into the last stitch.
SC evenly back up the side ending with 1 SC in the same stitch as your very first stitch of the round, Ch2 and slip stitch to join to the first SC.
Please see the Chenille yarn video for full break down of the first row of the border including how many stitches to work down the sides and how to place them
For the next 3 Rounds of my border, I used the HDC VStitch
HDC VStitch Border Round 1:
Slip stitch in next 2 stitches, ch2 and HDC in same stitch.
*Skip a stitch, HDC VStitch in the next* until you reach the ch2 corner space
Into the corner spaces, work [HDC VStitch, Ch1, HDC Vstitch]
Continue around and end with a slip stitch to the initial Ch2 of the round.
HDC VStitch Border Round 2 and onwards:
Slip Stitch inbetween the Ch2 and HDC of the round below.
Ch2, HDC in same stitch
HDC VStitch into the ch1 spaces from the HDC VStitches on the row below
In the corner spaces, work [HDC VStitch, Ch1, HDC Vstitch]
To finish my border, I repeated the SC round to give it a nice sturdy edge.

Happy Crocheting!
